The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee of Community College Consortium of OER (CCCOER) started a book club using From Equity Talk to Equity Walk: Expanding Practitioner Knowledge for Racial Justice in Higher Education to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in Open Education. The book club was open to anyone and consisted of biweekly synchronous Zoom meetings and asynchronous discussions on OEGlobal’s discussion forum, OEG Connect. This presentation will be an engaging mix of a pre-recorded (15 minutes) segment and a live discussion and will detail the planning, implementation, and outcomes of the book club. Attendees will learn how to lead your own virtual book club and how different elements of a book club can facilitate conversations and efforts.

After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
  • Examine the guidelines from CCCOER on how to lead a virtual book club on equity, diversity, and/or inclusion
  • Establish and enforce norms for book group conversations about EDI with diverse participants
  • Assess the feasibility of using this approach at an institution
