Mote for Personalized Voice Notes: Connection, Feedback, and Accessibility via Edtech

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.

This Lightning Talk will build attendees’ awareness and practice using a new Chrome add-on called Mote. This free web extension provides users with the ability to provide 90-second audio notes that can be embedded into any document in the Google ecosystem (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Emails, and even PDFs or video). This new edtech tool is helpful in providing quality, personalized feedback to students; this personal contact is essential in building rapport and a sense of community in remote teaching and learning. Mote is particularly important to accessibility issues because voice notes can be transcribed automatically so that students can either read or listen to feedback. Suggestions for how to incorporate voice notes and transcriptions into feedback will be addressed with an aim to cultivate a student-centred learning environment.

After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
  • Understand how Mote can help to provide personalized feedback to students
  • Appreciate how Mote meets accessibility goals in providing both audio and written feedback
  • Consider how they can use Mote to connect with students in more personal ways
