MyOpenMath is a free online course management system. This open-source is primarily used in quantitative classes such as math, physics, and astronomy. Our general chemistry classes use MyOpenMath to facilitate and implement online homework assignments in place of commercial homework chemistry platforms.
The learning curve can be steep for instructors who want to implement this platform in their class, as questions are written in HTML code.
This presentation will introduce you to the platform and learn how to start creating your chemistry assignments without knowing HTML code. Tasks of how to add/create an assignment, how to utilize questions available in question banks, and setting up a gradebook will be presented.
We will show accessibility resources for this platform and support groups for faculty.
You will hear about the challenges and lessons learned from the first-year creation and implementation. No HTML knowledge is required.
After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
- Learn how to create chemistry assignments in MyOpenMath
- Learn how to adapt questions already available in MyOpenMath question banks
- Locate support groups for faculty in MyOpenMath
