This project utilizes available, free, online open-end resources to replace the costly textbook for the laboratory portion of Organic Chemistry I and II courses. Along with the lab textbook, our goal was to provide supplementary material (in-lab technique videos, pre-lab lecture lightboard videos, and pre-lab notes) tailored to our department needs. Development of the new supplementary material will help to keep laboratory assignments aligned with student learning outcomes and everyone involved on track. Students may view them online or print them before the laboratories as they will be shared through the online learning management system. All developed resources will not only be shared within the department, but also be shared on other GSU campuses as well. This session we will share our design, implementation and the pilot data of the project.
After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
Recognize a suitable alternative to hard-copy laboratory techniques textbooks
List supplementary materials aligned with student learning outcomes
Compare student satisfaction data during pilot implementation
