Passion alone isn’t enough. While many OER initiatives are born out of the passion of one or two individuals on campus, for the initiative to take off and thrive they will inevitably need to recruit others and build a coalition. Without that, burnout can be quick and fierce. Though this may sound negative, there are tried and true methods and tools used by other OER advocates that have helped build lasting initiatives and maintain momentum. These various skills and supports help create successful OER advocates, and ultimately, avoid burnout. This conversational session will encourage participants to consider their messaging strategy, their support networks, their change management strategy, and their self-care practices to grow and sustain their OER initiatives.

After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
  • Consider various audiences and tailor messaging regarding the benefits of Open
  • Explore various methods to coalition building/collaboration
  • Develop support networks
  • Consider and apply change management strategies
  • Consider and apply self-care techniques
