I'm a graduate student at MIT doing research in robotics. Outside of research, I run the student club MIT SOUL (students for open and universal learning), and lead several open education initiatives at MIT. Talk to me about anything related to open education! I am particularly involved in scaling up the pipeline that takes classes taught in-person at universities and turning them into something that is realistically learnable by anyone on the internet. Some interesting questions I'm tackling include: how do you build a culture where professors feel more motivated to put their teaching materials online? how do you capture the experience in a lab class? how do you replicate the experience in discussion-based humanities classes in an online setting? how do we build tools to make it possible to process course materials (editing video, handling copyright, subtitling) extremely quickly and cheaply, while preserving accuracy and detail?
